Summer Intern
Thunder View FarmsThunder View Farms is a family owned and operated for over 60 years in Grahamsville, NY. TVF is a cow calf direct to consumer beef operation as well as a production hay farm. The farm consists of 350 head total of registered black Angus with 140 brood cows and 120 background/ feeder cattle as well as registered bulls and heifers which are sold to other producers. We also produce all of our own feed to feed the cattle herd while producing another 40,000 small square bales to sell in the local horse hay market. Our equipment fleet is comprised of all John Deere tractors, modern implements, a Krone Big M, and we use the Bale Barron system for handling the small squares. Our farm has also won national awards for environmental stewardship which is at the fore front of our values as well.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORWe are looking for highly motivated people that are willing to work hard alongside three generations of family members and our other valued employees. We are very open to discuss our operation to make this as much of learning experience as you desire. Most days will be cattle work in the morning such as checking cows and rotating pastures followed by afternoons in the hay field producing haylage for feed or dry hay to sell.

What Interns Are Saying
“As a TVF intern you are more than just an intern, you are part of their family. They gave me one of the best summers I have ever had. The harder you work the more you will be rewarded. Everyone at TVF takes the time to teach you their ways while giving you new experiences on the farm.”

“By attending Penn State University, all of my classes revolve around sustainability and how we as farmers can strive to always be better. I got the amazing opportunity to experience all of these practices that I learn about in classes, in action at Thunder View Farms. To see such a progressive operation make conscious and strategic decisions about land, water, nutrient, and animal management is truly encouraging to the entire agricultural industry. While I still learned so much, I also felt so appreciated. I look forward to passing down the knowledge and lessons I’ve acquired from this summer on my own farm as well as my career.”

Interning with Thunder View Farms over spring break was a great experience. I learned quite a bit even just being there a week. The Coombe family was so kind and took the time to teach me all about their operation and let me get my hands dirty.

“When I started my internship at Thunder View Farms, I knew very little about working on a farm beyond what I had been taught in college. They were extremely understanding and worked very well with me. By the end of the internship, I felt that I had learned far more than what I originally came there for. The experience (and the burgers) was absolutely amazing.”
