Good Beef Starts with Good Genetics
For generations, our family has focused on using proven Angus genetics that efficiently utilize the natural forages found throughout our lush hilltop pastures in New York. The rolling hills and open countryside surrounding Thunder View Farms have shaped not only our cattle program, but also our appreciation for the land and lifestyle we are fortunate to call home.
Today, Thunder View Farms includes both a growing direct-to-consumer beef business and a seedstock program focused on producing elite Angus genetics for commercial and registered cattlemen alike. Through our embryo transfer program and disciplined genetic selection, we continue building cattle designed to perform in the pasture and deliver value for our customers.
One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is providing local families with premium Angus beef raised right here on our farm. There is a special satisfaction in knowing many of our customers are experiencing this level of quality beef for the first time. From the flavor and tenderness to the confidence of knowing where their food comes from, we are proud to help connect people back to their food source and provide beef that we confidently feed our own family.
Whether you are purchasing Angus genetics or filling your freezer with beef, we are proud to serve both cattlemen and families with quality every time.
Our History
Thunder View Farms began in 1958 when Philip Jr. and Richard Coombe brought the first registered Aberdeen Angus cattle to the family farm on South Hill. Beginning with just six cows, the herd has grown to more than 300 head and continues to be supported by multiple generations of the Coombe family today.
For more than six decades, our family has remained committed to building a program centered around practical cattle, quality beef, and long-term stewardship of both our land and livestock.
Raised The Right Way
Our cattle are raised on fresh grass, clean water, and the natural resources found throughout our hilltop pastures. We maintain a closed herd whenever possible and avoid the use of antibiotics unless medically necessary. No growth hormones are ever used.
The result is wholesome, high-quality Angus beef that is aged, custom-cut, and flash frozen in a USDA-inspected facility before reaching our customers’ tables.
Preserving The Farm
In 2009, Thunder View Farms placed a permanent conservation easement on more than half of the farm’s acreage to help preserve the land for future generations while protecting open space and New York City’s drinking water.
As caretakers of both the land and livestock, we are proud to continue building a program focused on longevity, sustainability, and family tradition.
National Environmental Stewardship Winner
In 2018, we were honored to receive the Region 1 Environmental Stewardship Award before being named the National Environmental Stewardship Award winner in 2019. These awards recognized the conservation practices and land stewardship efforts that have remained an important part of our farm for generations.
Located near New York City’s Rondout Reservoir, we have worked hard to protect the natural resources surrounding our farm through rotational grazing, runoff management systems, fencing strategies, and renewable energy initiatives including wind and solar power. We have also worked with Watershed Agricultural Council on conservation efforts that support both agriculture and environmental protection.
For our family, stewardship is about more than raising cattle. It is about caring for the land responsibly so future generations can continue farming and enjoying the same countryside we are fortunate to call home.
